Trying ..... TIPS PLEASE

Ok so I am reading, viewing, or stalking so many blogs... and everyone has cute little things and icons and headers and such... I am pretty computer savy, but for the life of me can't seem to figure out how to get or do these things. and I think I figured out the link up thing, but any tips and such would be GREATLY appreciated from my few followers....and any additional help on getting some more friends to.
